Nancy’s literary skill, professionalism, and energy were pivotal to our projects... She stepped into the middle of a complex project and brought it to a successful completion.

– Sandra Olszowka, Coordinator, Queen's Centre for Business Venturing

Welcome to Mucklow Ed/IT.

I hope Sandra's comments have convinced you to read further. Perhaps you’re here because you have some project work that nobody in-house has time to do—maybe a report to write, a booklet to edit, a website to revise, a manual to develop, a book to proofread.

Let me ask you a few more questions to see if we should do business together.

Question 1:

Do you prefer working with a writer or editor who disappears and comes back with the work finished, or do you expect regular contact and questions?

It’s great when a writer or editor can just get the job done—and for many smaller projects, it's easy enough. But in my experience, things don’t usually work that way. The end result is usually not what the client expected.

I ask a lot of questions. I check in often to make sure where I’m headed is where we’re both supposed to be headed—of course, more at the beginning and less as we progress. But you’re the one who knows what you want. My job is to tap into that.

Nancy Mucklow helped transform [our] manuscript from a pile of disconnected documents and emails into one long funky flowing blog.

– Mark Surman and Darren Werschler-Henry, authors of CommonSpace

Question 2:

Do you prefer to work with people on a single contract, or do you tend toward longer-term relationships?

Yes, I do take on single contracts. Everybody does. But I always look forward to the chance to work long term with a client. The reason is that it takes a while to learn how a client’s organization works—its goals, styles, key staff, preferred technology, etc. In a longer-term work relationship, I can offer cleaner and more focused work.

Nancy coordinated and edited the contributions of several leading international authorities and brought them together into a sharp, strong report suitable for an international audience...and she met all our deadlines. I would use her services again.

– Rodney Semotiuk, President and CEO of ATFCan

Also, I rarely quote by the hour. I quote by the project. You need the assurance of knowing what you’re on the hook for, and I need to focus my time. I also like firm deadlines because they allow me to schedule projects more accurately.

With any luck, that’s the way you work too.

Question 3:

Do you care about what you are doing, about your message and ideas, or is this just a job that needs to be done?

I know that some people can work on anything. I have to care. There are so many opportunities out there to make a huge impact on our collective way of life and to solve apparently unsolveable problems that I want to put my time and energy there. Playing it safe, going for bland, hiding lights under bushels—that’s not for me. This office runs entirely on green electricity, uses entirely recycled paper, and supports several innovate nonprofits and charities. You can email me to ask who they are and what they do. I’m glad to be a part of their work.

Nancy has worked for Pearson for many years now. Our staff has been delighted with her quick turnarounds, thoughtful revisions, and expert handling of textbooks for the college market.

– Sögut Guleč, Managing Editor Pearson Education

Do think it’s worth it to give me a call?

Here is a short list of some of the tasks I take on. For specific information related to business, science and technology, nonprofits, government, and public institutions, or publishers, please follow these links or click on the buttons at the top of this page.

A few other questions... Do you...

have an idea for a book but no time to write it?
have a team of writers that can’t quite coordinate the final document?
have more projects than your staff can handle?
have messages that aren’t reaching your target audiences?
have a report, brochure, article, newsletter, book, or script that needs

 writing, editing, or proofreading?

If so, then that’s what I’m here for. Please call (613-541-1890) or email [nancy-[at]-mucklowedit.com. We can discuss your project and its challenges, your goals, and your team. Or we can answer your questions about budgets, timelines, and guarantees. Whatever—just call.

Here is my virtual handshake. Very nice to meet you.
